The Commons reject the Dubs Amendment

Lord Alfred Dubs, Labour peer and former MP, discusses the House of Commons’ rejection of his amendment to the EU Withdrawal Bill.

Lord Dubs, backed by the House of Lords, had stipulated that the government must negotiate a deal with the EU to allow unaccompanied child asylum seekers to join their relatives in Britain.

Barring child refugees from legal ways to arrive in the UK and join their families risks forcing them to seek dangerous alternatives.
