André Dao and Michael Green of the award-winning project “Behind The Wire” expose the detention of asylum seekers in Australia through videos, audio stories, photographs and exhibitions. Founded in 2014, Behind the Wire shares the stories of those who have experienced detention: family separation, despair, violence, lack of health care but also friendship and love. André and Michael identify the shocking situation of offshore detention centres for children such as Nauru Island, which only stopped holding children in February 2019. Australia’s stance on migrant children had previously aroused strong international condemnation. Recently, this non-profit organisation has also launched a new project documenting statelessness in Australia.
