Mayor’s Office partners with IOHR to launch #WorkWellRefugees campaign

The Greater London Authority in partnership with the International Observatory of Human Rights is holding an event at City Hall to bring together more than twenty-five business leaders, public sector policy makers, refugees and non-governmental organisations to discuss how to include more refugees in the UK workplace.

The UK is committed to resettle more than 20,000 refugees in the country by 2020 through the Syrian Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme (VPRS). Moreover, it also introduced the Community Sponsorship scheme in July 2016, allowing local communities to assume greater responsibility in the global refugee crisis by taking up a leading role in resettling refugee families into their neighbourhood.

Over a business breakfast participants will discuss the benefits refugees can bring to business and the obstacles employers face when looking to hire refugees.

On this special occasion, the International Observatory of Human Rights and members of the Mayor’s office will launch the #WorkWellRefugees campaign—an initiative to keep the focus on the plight of refugees and now to help the integrate into society.

Executives and members of the groups attending will participate in panel discussions and a workshop.

#WorkWellRefugees will start at 9.30 am
