Everyone needs help in starting out, settling in and building the skills to successfully integrate into UK society.

Meet Abdulrhman

Abdulrhman is a 23-year-old Syrian student who has taken this journey himself. In 2018 he and his family were granted refugee resettlement to the UK after his father lost his leg due to the war on Syria.

While the journey to the UK had been tough, Abdulrhman and his family also faced many challenges when they first arrived, from overcoming language barriers to finding their way around in order to purchase basic home needs. Despite these challenges Abdulrhman still managed to enrol in university and is now volunteering to help other refugees.

Bayt UK is the guide he wishes he had when he was trying to find English classes, apply for a job so he could help support his family and understand why English people talk a lot about tea and the weather.

In partnership with Abdulrhman, IOHR has created Bayt UK as a guide in Arabic to share his experience with other refugees to make their journey to their new life in the UK as pain free and enjoyable as possible. Abdulrhman is now proud to call the UK his home and to share his journey with everyone.

Abdulrhman: a journey to find home in London

23-year-old Syrian refugee Abdulrhman shares his journey from Aleppo in Syria to settling into a new home in London and introduces his new role with the International Observatory of Human Rights to help Arabic speaking refugees integrate into British society.
