As Official Media Sponsor, IOHR to Broadcast from the World Conference on Statelessness

The International Observatory of Human Rights is the official media sponsor of the World Conference on Statelessness and will be broadcasting from the conference, which takes place in The Hague on 26 – 28 June. The event is organised by the Institute on Statelessness and Inclusion.

Statelessness is a main area of focus for IOHR and an urgent global issue. During the ongoing debate about IS returnees from Syria, IOHR has worked to shine a light on the situation of the innocent children trapped in Syria and other conflict areas. The campaign #SaveSalmaan, broadcasted by BBC and other publications, has fought for the safe return to Britain for these children and served as a stepping stone for a wider discussion in the UK on the rights of children of IS and militant groups.

IOHR is also calling on the UN to appoint a special representative and dedicate a special International Day Against Statelessness.

IOHR Activities

IOHR will be filming and live-streaming sessions, and reporters and producers will be interviewing key participants and panellists in a pop-up studio, collecting their questions and reflections. IOHR will also be documenting the Cancelled Arts programme, filming the artwork and performances as well as participants’ reactions.

IOHR TV presenter and former CNN and Sky News reporter Trish Lynch will lead reports from the conference.

Valerie Peay, Director of IOHR, will be a panellist on “Transforming the Narrative Landscape: Advocacy, Activism & Art”, one of the Grand Challenges sessions, and speak of the role of media and campaigning.

Ash Naji, Head of Communications, will lead the conference’s media training workshop.

Louise Pyne-Jones, Head of Research, will participate in an expert meeting on citizenship stripping as a counter-terrorism measure and moderate “Histories of Statelessness”, a panel discussion.

IOHR is also pleased to be bringing two members of the al-Ghufran tribe, who will participate in a session on statelessness in the Middle East.
